Criticism of the Ubuntu Business Model

Adam W works for Mandriva regarding marketing and also does a bit of coding/packaging for them. If you've ever posted on a forum regarding a problem with Mandriva then likely you'll have interacted with Adam. He's certainly been very helpful to me in the past.

On his personal blog he's posted a criticism of the business model that Ubuntu/Canonical operates. A criticism of how Ubuntu was parachuted into the Linux ecosystem and basically disturbed the market that all the distros with a commercial base operate in.

And he's got a point. Canonical is operating a business model that assumes bottomless pockets for it's founder Mark Shuttleworth. Question is, what happens should Shuttleworth's finances ever be withheld from Canonical?

Interesting. Will be good to see what debates this stirs up!

Now that's what I call a thurible

This is the thurible in action at the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Now that is impressive, if not dangerous!

David MacDonald - Holy of Holies

Here's a fantastic worship song from David MacDonald. He's a gifted worship leader, musician and composer who would, I think, have a much higher profile within the CCM arena were he not a Catholic. :(

Anyways, enjoy the video and the song!

The second music video is called 'Life is the only choice'.

If you read David's testimony you'll realise how much this particular song comes from deep within him.

God bless!

Google Picasa 3.0 beta for Linux

Well I don't know how that slipped under the radar but Google have released Picasa 3.0 Beta for Linux!

V2 had become somewhat buggy on my Mandriva box, often hanging interminably and was sluggish in the extreme. So that was removed and V3 installed.

And it's a huge leap forward in performance and functionality.

Heavenly music

Sometimes you come across something that just stops you in your tracks. The music in the player below is one of those things. Apparently it's by the Choir of St. Romanos the Melodist of the Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Prešov and is called "Da molcit vsjakaja plot".

Then again it may not be,

But to be honest this just takes me to another place, it really does. Some of the most moving vocals I've ever heard.

If anyone knows more about this then please let me know!

God Bless.
