Dramatic Increase in responses due to text messages - November 21, 2008
Every day SAT-7 ARABIC broadcasts text messages received from viewers. Most of these messages are in Arabic, but the also arrive in English and French. After receiving a message, SAT-7 reviews it and then adds it to a crawl on the bottom of the screen. This is now a popular feature of many other Arabic TV stations, and viewers often text personal messages to friends who may be watching. These TV stations usually charge for this service. SAT-7 provides the text crawl free of charge, and many of the messages carried on the screen are prayer requests in which the writers are asking the entire SAT-7 audience to pray for their needs.
Christians in the Middle East and North Africa
What do you know about Middle Eastern and North African Christian communities? Did you know that in the year 1900, Arab Christians made up about 20% of the local population? Now that number is now only about 4% across the region and continues to decrease in many areas. There are still sizable numbers of Christians in some countries, but they need our help. Many have limited or no access to Christian training or other materials that can help disciple new followers of Christ and train emerging leaders so that local churches survive and thrive. But satellite TV is reaching even the most remote areas.
