Ambassadors for the Kingdom

When we talk about being "ambassadors for Christ," it can sound like one of those lofty titles reserved for missionaries or pulpit preachers. But the truth is, it’s meant for every follower of Jesus – you, me, and the next person who dares to call Him Lord. It’s a calling, not a career path; an identity, not a job description.

In 2 Corinthians 5:20, Paul says, "We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." Let that sink in. God is making His appeal through us. Not just through our polished Sunday selves, but through the awkward, unfinished, and often unimpressive lives we live from Monday to Saturday. He’s chosen the ordinary to carry the extraordinary.

Now, what does it mean to be an ambassador in Kingdom terms? Not in political terms or religious clichés, but in the messy, beautiful reality of everyday life? It means living in such a way that others catch a glimpse of heaven’s culture. An ambassador doesn’t speak for themselves. They represent the one who sent them. That changes the way we speak, the way we serve, the way we treat the waiter who gets our order wrong or the colleague who grates our nerves.

We’re not just pointing people to Jesus; we’re showing them what life under His rule looks like. We are, in essence, walking billboards of the Kingdom. But here's the thing – this role isn't about perfection, it’s about presence. God's presence in us. It's about living with such an awareness of who we represent that even when we fail, we fail forward, pointing back to the grace that holds us.

Jesus didn’t send out ambassadors with titles and robes. He sent fishermen, tax collectors, and everyday folk who had encountered the real deal and couldn’t keep it to themselves. That’s our model. Kingdom ambassadorship isn’t about being louder; it’s about being clearer. Not shouting Jesus from rooftops, but whispering Him with our lives, in the way we listen, the way we forgive, the way we carry hope into hopeless spaces.

And let’s not miss this – ambassadors live with one foot in their homeland and one in the place they’ve been sent. That tension is part of the calling. We don’t belong here in the fullest sense, but we’re here on purpose. We feel the ache of a world that’s not yet made right, but we carry the scent of the world to come. That contrast should be evident. When everyone’s panicking, we should carry peace. When the culture is chasing self, we should be laying our lives down in service. When everything is shouting division, we should be quietly building bridges.

There’s a weight to it, yes – but also a wonder. To think that the King of Kings trusts us to represent His heart in our families, in our workplaces, in our communities. It’s a holy trust. And the world doesn’t need more religious noise. It needs Kingdom ambassadors – those who walk humbly, love deeply, and represent Christ not in name alone but in nature.

So, let’s step into our streets, our schools, our Zoom calls and coffee queues with this in mind: we are not just here to survive or succeed. We are sent. And if we’re sent by the King, then everywhere we go becomes an opportunity for the Kingdom to break in.

Grace and peace, friends. Let’s carry the Kingdom well.

Church on Sunday at Strodes College, Egham

 Prophetic word for students -

Our Sunday service starts at 11:00 a.m. and typically lasts about 90 minutes.

We start each service with lively worship with songs from around the world, followed by inspired Bible-based teaching. All our sermons are recorded and are available as a podcast after the service.

We have a monthly cycle of Sunday services, with our Communion Service being on the first Sunday of each month and an All-Age All-Nation Service on the second Sunday of each month. Our other Sunday services include Spirit-focused and teaching services.

We have consciously adopted being a blended church, that is, both for those online and face-to-face. You are welcome to join us on Livestream or via Facebook, Linkedin, YouTube, or X (Twitter), or you can catch up and watch the recordings later.
